    • Best Start

Our classrooms are designed and equipped to give your child the best educational and development start in life.

    • High Standards

Helga’s pre-school standards are high and rightly so. Our duty of care and early learning to young children is very important to us.

  • Our philosophy is learning through play as we offer a stimulating environment for children.

    • Our Aim

The aim of our school is to give children the best possible start to the most important school years. We want the children to be happy, and content to progress without pressure, and most importantly to enjoy their days at school as much as we do.

    • Playbased Learning

Our “play based learning” offers a structured system that allows the children to develop at their own pace, using their own abilities under guidance of our qualified staff and the use of the specially designed play based materials. We like the children to be independent and to share. We want them to have freedom within structure and to learn how to take care of each other, to take care of the materials, and to learn from them.

    • Committed

We at Helga’s Preschool are committed to providing affordable, quality and stimulating childcare for children, parents and guardians.

    • Caring Enviorment

We strive to provide a welcoming, safe, secure and caring environment.

    • Encouragement

Where all children are encouraged to be individuals by expressing their views, opinions and interests, which will always be respected and supported by all staff in our service.

  • Aistear

    Early Childhood Curriculum Framework
  • Aistear is the curriculum framework for all children in Ireland from birth to six years. It describes the types of learning that are important for children at this stage in their lives.

  • Aistear is a guide for planning exciting, engaging and fun learning experiences and activities for children in daycare and sessional services, in infant classes in primary schools and in childminding settings. It also offers lots of practical ideas to parents for how they can help their children learn through everyday activities and routines.

The framework describes children’s learning and development using four themes:

    • Well-being
    • Identity and Belonging
    • Communicating
    • Exploring and Thinking.

  • We have been educating children for over nineteen years. Our goal is to create a place that engages each child.

    Our play based curriculum includes:

    • Language– Materials promote the child’s language abilities by introducing new words through word cards and sandpaper letters.
    • Sensorial– Exercises to organise objects by size, shape, colour, touch, sound, weight, smell and temperature.
    • Maths– Exercises that help the child to gain an understanding of sequences, order addition and subtraction.
    • Culture– Culture is taught to the child through the uses of jigsaw maps, sandpaper globes, 3 part cards and continent folders. Children learn about geography, history and the natural sciences.
    • Learning & Fun

At Helga’s pre-school, we believe in a fun, play-based approach to learning and development in the early years.

    • Children Safety

We incorporate extensive safety and security features in our centres and have rigorous procedures in place, to ensure that your child is kept safe in our care.

    • Focused

Focused individual attention in a small-class setting.

    • Friendly Place

Providing a positive learning environment for your child.

    • My son has attended Helga’s preschool Balscadden for nearly two years now and has loved every minute of it!
He goes in with great enthusiasm and comes out just as happy. They take such good care of him and it has been such a positive experience for both of us. Thank you

    • As parents of seven children, six of whom attended Helga’s Preschool over the years, we can offer our wholehearted endorsement. Indeed, I felt compelled to pen a few verses of thanks when our 6th child Graduated…….

“In many many ways you taught our children to learn, play & laugh

That influence easily seen, a testament to your staff…..”

Grainne & Gary Rutherford - Balrothery
    • In asking my son what he has enjoyed the most from his time here, he replies, the toys, having his turn to hand out the plates at lunch time and the garden (which has been transformed this year with the new wooden features such as the outdoor kitchen, water wall, insect house and bench)
